Discussion #2 -The Beast
Why do you think Walter Dean Myers named the story, "The Beast"? What two predictions can you make about the story based on this title and the cover picture?
I think Walter Dean Myers named the book "The Beast" because probably he got his inspiration from the word beast.He maybe thought the word beast.He maybe thought the word beast as a dangerous animal that kills and ruins peoples lives in metaphorical way he makes it an expression to explain what the beast does. Another prediction why i think Walter Dean Myers named the book a"The Beast" because he grew up around drug dealers and understands wht happens to people affected by drugs.which then he thought the term beast sounds like a dangerous animal that is within people who make wrong choices.
Walter Dean Myers probably named the story “The Beast” because someone in the story might be or act like a beast. To be a beast is to be a hideous animal and be all bad. According to the picture the two people may act like a beast all bad and evil or maybe someone else in the story. Also probably that person might get into gangs or could be a bully. Also he or she might do drugs. That is a reason I think that Walter named the book “The Beast.” According to my first idea, on why Walter probably named his book “The Beast” maybe the boy was the one that did all the drugs or got into gangs and fights. The girl in the front of the book maybe have found out and so did his parents and so he might have to move away. Cocoa Puffs
I think that Walter Dean Myers wrote the story called “The Beast” Because terrible things may happen in the story. When I see the book’s title “The Beast” I think of a creature that behaves bad that may cause trouble. One prediction that I can make about the story based on this cover picture is the two young kids are in love with each other. Another prediction that I can make based on the cover picture is that two young kids pass through terrible things to be together.
Once experience of the two that may have influenced Myers’ writing career and style might be the fact that when Myers was a child his mother read him many novels and more mature books. I think this is a reason for Myers writing career and style because all these books might have shown him many different ways to write and he might have also gained an imagination from these books.
The second experience that may have influenced Myers’ writing career and style, may have been in my opinion, is that he wanted change from mostly white writers to more African American writers. Why I think that is because in the biography it said that there was a larger majority of white writers and almost no African American writers. Another change that Myers might have wanted is to get out of Harlem. The reason I think that is because in the biography it talked about how the area that he grew up in was not a very successful place and that’s why I think he wanted a change.
I think Walter Dean Myers named the story, "the Beast", because he's using the word to describe the feeling of the girl on the book cober. When you hear the word beast you usually think of a monster, something deadly or something that can kill you. Something that is dangerous to be around. In this case the word beast may not mean it's actual definition, but may still be deadly and dangerous to be around, like drugs.
My first prediction of the story is that the girl on the book cover is in trouble. I think she may struggle with some problems and needs someone there to help her, wich leads to the boy on the book cover. He may be there trying to help her get out of her problems or trying to save her from "The Beast".
My second predition is the other way around. Maybe the boy is in trouble and is tryibg to get out of the belly of the beast. The girl is probably there helping him and encouraging him.
I believe Walter Dean Myers named the story "The Beast" because the main character has to fight against his inner beast telling him to do bad things that aren't going to come out good in the long-run. Also the cover picture makes me believe that it's a fight for love and he has to fight against his beast, in other words the will to cheat on the girl. So in the story he is going to try not to cheat on the girl because he loves the girl. And if he does cheat he will lose the girl so then basically he's fighting for love. "The Beast" could mean a lot of things "The Beast"could be laziness he has to overcome to get things done in life. Or "The Beast" could be an actual beast hunting him done. But just because of the cover picture the book "The Beast" I mostly believe it's a fight for love. So that's what I believe the story "The Beast" is about.
There are many predictions you can make about the story “The Beast”. One prediction you can make about this story is that the man in the cover is worried. He might be worried because something bad has happened in his life. Maybe something happened in the girl’s life and he is worried about her. It seems like the girl is going to need help to solve this problem. Another prediction I can make is that, the man and woman are madly in love with each other. The man seems like he is going to be there, whenever the girl has a problem. The woman looks like she can count on the man, to help her, though her problem. Also by looking at the cover, I can see that he is her support bag. I think that Walter Dean Myers called this story “The Beast” because one of the characters changes mentally and physically, in the story. The character can change mentally by the feeling inside. Such as, depression, anger, and the feeling of being hurt. The character can change physically when he or she becomes a drug addict.
When i hear the word "Beast" what comes to mind is something dark, dangerous, wild and difficult to control. Therefore i think the reason Walter D. Myers named the story "The Beast" is because he wants be to make a connection between a best and a difficult thing to control. So obviously the characters in the story are going to face a big struggle that is going to be hard to overcome.
When i read the tittle "The Beast" it makes me wonder if the story is going to be about a dark creature. A dark creature that is tearing down the protagonist. When i mention creature i mean like some kept secret that they are struggling with. When i see the picture of the sad couple it makes me wonder if the story is going to be about the hard times that they are going to face. Also it makes me think that the story might be about a sad couple struggling to get through hard moments.
I think Walter Dean Myers named the story the beast because there’s a dangerous deadly tragedy that happens in the story. It maybe does something to ruin their lives and the people on the cover of the book are maybe the victims of this “beast”. Maybe this deadly tragedy affects one of them and they try everything to stop it, but they know nothing can help them. So they hug each other as if it were there last. Two Predictions that I have about what’s going to happen in the book is that this deadly “beast” infects one of them and nearly cost them their lives, but they try and fight it, and find a cure. Maybe the beast is going to change one of them and almost ruin their life. Another prediction is that this beast or virus affects them horribly and kills them. This “beast” maybe changes one of them and takes over, and makes them attack each other to the point of death. Or this deadly dangerous beast maybe is an infection that gets into their body and destroys their organs and contaminates their lungs. Those are my predictions on what will happen in the book “The Beast” by Walter Dean Myers.
Walter might have named the book “The Beast” because a beast is an animal that is furious, wild, ugly vicious, aggressive, fast, fast, hairy etc……. the characteristics of a beast is that it wants what it wants. So Walter might of used the title “The Beast” to tell you a little of what’s going to happen in the story or how the characters will behave. Walter might have used that picture on the book to show you that there’s this sweet smart girl so when he says “The Beast” he’s showing you how a smart, pretty, and intelligent girl could turn out different over a few months of sadness. I think something bad is going to happen and the girl cannot take it anymore and there’s this guy that has the characteristics of the beast which takes over the girl.

Maybe even it wasn’t a person's appearance; it could’ve probably been a way someone acted. A person probably could’ve been a big bully or didn’t act like themselves, someone different and bad.
One prediction that I have based on the title and the cover is that maybe the guy had problems that he's facing and takes it out by anger. Maybe he doesn’t act like himself and needs to change. The boy probably doesn’t know who he is and needs to find out. Maybe he needs help and the girl on the cover is there for him.
My other prediction is that maybe both the girl and the boy have problems. They probably have the same kind of problems in their life and can relate to each other. Both of them probably have different problems but can feel the pain that they have. The girl and the boy probably just met each other or have been friends for a while now. Either way they’re there for each other and support each other. Those are my predictions and my thoughts.
I think that Walter dean Myers named this book the “beast” because whenever I see this title I think its going to be horrible things happing to people. When I see the title I think someone is going crazy or acting wild and doing a lot of evil thing. The title beast remind me of people that our so deeply apart but the beast is separating them apart. That why I think he names this book beast.
Based on what I see on the title and pictures the first prediction I made is the beast is really something that tearing the main characters’ apart which they are couples. But it looks like the just finished arguing . And by looking at the picture you can see the the girl is hidden something from the boy that she loves and I looks like when she tells him his heart going to be broken.
Based on the title and cover of the book “The Beast” I can predict that one or even both of the characters on the cover will go through something that relates to being “The Beast”. Some examples of a beast are mysterious, hurtful, strong, etc… Things that happen in everyday life relate to being a beast like hurting another person emotionally or physically judging by the cover.
The reason why I think Walter Dean Myers wrote the book “the beast” is because the word “the beast” in the book means someone that is very aggressive and acts really bad. The beast in the book could be a very mean person that has a lot of problems in their life’s and takes it out on other people. The beast could also mean that a beast has taken over a very nice person and that person turns into a really mean person but that’s not what they want so they want to overcome the beast and stop it before it gets any worse. By the cover of the book I can predict that the girl has a lot of problems and she just needs someone to help her out and the guy steps up and helps her.
i think Walter Dean Myers named the story the "The Beast"because, maybe later on in the story the two most important characters,"Gabi and Spoon" maybe involved in very bad things such as being in gangs, or maybe even starting to do drugs.Also another prediction i can make is that Gabi may start to do other bad things because of depression of her mothers sickness.also Walter Dean Myers could be saying that Gabi is doing bad things to herself and she is slowly starting to turn into a monster.Also since spoon is moving away from Gabi he begins to turn into a monster also as he begins to change his world around with a whole new life.
The author Walter Dean Myers most likely put this picture as the cover picture because,he wanted to show how the characters look like so the readers would have an idea of what they look like.Also he could be showing that Spoon is hugging Gabi and from all the bad things that she could be doing and trying to save her from her own life.
I think the reason why Walter Dean Myer's named his book "The Beast" is because it has to do with drugs also knowen as "The Beast" and they are taking over his girlfriend. One prediction I have about the book is from the title. By looking at the title i think the book is about a boy who is losing his girlfriend to "The beast". Another prediction i have is the girl is sick or depressed. I can infer this by looking at the picture on the cover where i think she looks sick and/or depressed.
I think Walter Dean Myers named his book ''The Beast'' because Spoon the character in the book goes to a school far from Gabi and he falls in love with another girl. So he has to fight the beast in him and tell Gabi his old love he doest love her anymore.
The second reason why I think Walter Dean Myers named his book ''The Beast'' is because maybe a friend or family member of Gabi does not approve her going out with spoon and they act like a beast treating him like a beast whould.
One prediction that I can make about the story based on this title and the cover picture.I think Walter wrote this title because something bad is going to happen in this book. the prediction that I can make by judging by the cover Is that Spoon or Gabi is doing something that is making Gabi fell sad.It could also be making spoon sad to because,they are hugging each other and Gabi has her eyes closed and she has her head on his chest.It seems judging by the other cover of the book that something or someone is interfering with there relationship and it seems to be taking them apart. Another thing i can predict judging by the title of the book is that there is an animal or a creature that does bad things to people.It probably comes out and causes problems with Spoon and Gabi.Also"The Beast" could be a person who makes bad decisions and is taking over Gabi or Spoon.This is what I predict that this is why Walter D. Myers put the title "The Beast"
I think Walter Dean Myers named his book ("The Beast") because the main character in the book gets sick with a new virus going around and this virus is called ("The Beast") and a lot of people are dying. But he tries to fight the beast and he wins as later they make a cure.But then he starts to do drugs and has to fight the inner beast with in him that tells him to do drugs.
I also think Walter Dean Myers named his book ("The Beast") because there is some one in the story that does not approve of of Gabi and Spoon going out and they start to act aggressive on one of them and telling them bad things why they should not go out and try all they can to break them up and act like a Beast.
